Paul Sheerin

The club's 9th summer 2004 capture, joining just 24 hours before the start of the competitive season on a two year deal from Aberdeen with no fee involved. Paul made his debut against Hamilton in the Bell's Cup on 31 July 2004 and a string of consistent performances thereafter ensured that he remained an almost permanent fixture in the team for the entire 04/05 season.

If Paul had been a consistent figure in his debut season, he was a stand-out in 2005/2006 and netted ten league goals for the side, by now managed by Owen Coyle.

Paul put pen to paper on a 12 month deal to see him through 2006/07 and once again he was a vital cog in the wheels of the team in Saints memorable league and cup season prompting him to remain at the club for a fourth season, 2007/08 and he got the new campaign off to a good start from a personal point of view with a penalty double in the opening 3-3 draw at Dumfries - the first of a remarkable series of penalty kick successes so far this season.

He began his career with Alloa Athletic having stepped up from Whitehill Welfare. A move to Southampton followed and while at The Dell he played under, among others, Ian Branfoot, Alan Ball and Graeme Souness. However he failed to break through and left after four years without having made a league appearance.

A brief return to Alloa was followed by a more productive spell with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, who he joined in January 1998, and over the course of three and a half seasons he became a regular goalscorer from his midfield berth for the Highlanders.

There followed an 18 month stint with Ayr United but in January 2003 a fee of £12,000 took him to Aberdeen where his boss at ICT Steve Paterson had moved.

He was not unaffected by the run of poor form shown by the Dons over a period of time and when Jimmy Calderwood took over at Pittodrie in the summer of 2004, Paul was advised that his future lay elsewhere.

Paul has one Scotland Under 21 cap to his name - he was in the dark blue side which beat San Marino 1-0 at Firhill in November 1995.
